Grand Tour Bronze of The Dancing Faun

Mid 19th Century 'Grand Tour' Bronze of the "Dancing Faun" with lovely patination.
9" high

HISTORICAL NOTE: The original Bronze Statue of the "Dancing Faun" was located in the sumptuous grounds of the House of the Faun, one of the largest private residences of Pompeii, built in the 2nd century BC and so named after the statue of this satyr-like figure.  Preserved by layers of volcanic ash, it was uncovered in the excavations of the 1830s, when copies began to be made for the wealthy art collectors who wanted to take home souvenirs of their Grand Tour.
