Fine Marquetry Inlaid Two Drawer Writing Table by Maple & Co

A Fine and Elegant Maple & Co Marquetry two-drawer Writing Table, the Harewood panels inlaid with ribbons, husks and swags, crossbanded in Kingwood, with string inlaid Mahogany legs and original castors, the top with quadruple banding of Satinwood, Mahogany, Harewood and Kingwood surrounding a faded parchment green tooled leather.  Stamped Maple & Co to RH drawer, and locks by Hobbs.  Freestanding and identically inlaid to four sides.

The stamp of Maple & Co can be found on a wide range of furniture from 1873 onwards, but not always of the superb quality of this table, with its variety of inlay and fine original colour.  A truly beautiful example of its kind.

Note: Harewood is the generic name for the fiddleback cut of sycamore veneer originally stained green and generally fading with age to a light brown, much used in the late 18th Century together with satinwood, and therefore in Sheraton revival furniture of this type and period
