Geo II Mahogany Chest on Chest

Geo II Mahogany Tallboy or Chest on Chest of fine quality and excellent colour, with singular features relating to North Country work, the lower case with quadrant stop fluted corners, the upper with chequered line inlaid stop and fluted corners, the cornice and mouldings in cross grained mahogany, retaining the original pierced brasses, and raised on ogee feet.

NOTE: This piece relates stylistically to "double chests" [sic] supplied by Gillows of Lancaster to Northern clients such as Sizergh Castle (1758), particularly regarding the quadrant corners, pierced brassware and fine timber - however the superlatively fine inlaid lines remain a "one-off" in our experience.  The oak drawer linings conform to a 1750s dating.  Circa 1755, North West England
