Serpentine Mahogany Card Table
A Fine Serpentine Mahogany Card Table with richly figured top and pull-out action, raised on moulded cabriole legs to scrolled toes, headed by delicately carved flowers, the frieze centred on a crisply carved escutcheon. France, circa 1860
NOTE: A Parisian Gilder's stamp, Romain-Magniant, DOREUR, 91 Rue Traversiere, is apparently to be found beneath the baize surface of this table, with a label to this effect affixed to the pull-out well. Romain-Magniant is listed in 1862 as a gilder of leather, silk, velvets, cottons etc. It is likely that he was responsible for the original lining of this table, possibly in tooled leather, rather than being the maker of it
