HISTORICAL NOTE
Though not stamped, this Cabinet is very much in the manner of Charles Mellier & Co, an Anglo French firm of cabinet makers established in 1868 out of the French business of Monbro, with workshops in Margaret Street and Cavendish Square. They were the foremost English furniture exhibitors at the St Louis International Exposition of 1904, and furnished many prestigious addresses for clients in the last quarter of the 19th Century, including Viscount Iveagh. A Pianoforte took pride of place in contemporary drawing rooms and therefore required an elegant Music Cabinet such as this one.
